Welcome to Kingfishers.
Kingfishers are a vibrant and enthusiastic group of 26 children!
In Kingfishers, the children are taught the national curriculum in a creative and fun way. We value using the outdoors whenever we can and encourage the children to play an active part in their learning. We have a class focus this year on building resourcefulness and resilience in all areas of our work and as such, the children are learning to actively look for ways to help themselves when they encounter challenges in school. As teachers, we actively look for opportunities to praise the children when they show resourcefulness or demonstrate resilience and perseverance.
In Kingfishers, we study Maths and English every morning and practise our times tables through the Mastering Number Programme and handwriting and spellings as part of our English lessons. On Mondays, we have a weekly reading lesson with Mrs Beswetherick.
Weekly routines:
Games & P.E.
Children should come to school in their games kit on a Tuesday and Wednesday.
Swimming
Swimming lessons take place at Hornby pool. The children thoroughly enjoy these lessons and make excellent progress. They need to bring their swimwear and a towel, together with a warm coat and hat to wear for the journey to and from school. The day of the week may change from time to time so please check Remind.
Reading
We hear children read as much as possible individually but they will benefit enormously from reading every day and this is something you can help with at home. We encourage the children to bring their reading record and reading book to school every day. Please read with your child and listen to them read to you as much as you can.
Homework
Homework is ongoing with reading books, spellings practise on Spelling Frame and Times Tables practise on Times Tables Rock Stars. We encourage the children to access these resources as much as possible to help their fluency and confidence.
Spellings
Spellings are updated on a Friday through Spelling Frame.
Times Tables
At the end of Year 4, all children need to be able to recall their times tables. We do lots of work in school on this, but regular practise at home will also support confidence and fluency in recalling facts. Each child has a Times Tables Rock Star login. Please ask if you need a reminder for log in details.
There are lots of games online that you can play to help practise times tables facts.
