Welcome to Kingfishers.
Kingfishers are a vibrant and enthusiastic group of 24 children in years 3 and 4. They are taught by Mrs Burgess and Mrs Cunliffe.
In Kingfishers, the children are taught the national curriculum in a creative and fun way. We value using the outdoors whenever we can and encourage the children to play an active part in their learning. We have a class focus this year on building resourcefulness and resilience in all areas of our work and as such, the children are learning to actively look for ways to help themselves when they encounter challenges in school. As teachers, we actively look for opportunities to praise the children when they show resourcefulness or demonstrate resilience and perseverance.
The children in Kingfishers study Maths and English every morning and practise their times tables, handwriting and spellings as part of these lessons. On Fridays, the children have a weekly grammar lesson.
Weekly routines:
Games & P.E.
Children should come to school in their games kit on a Monday.
Swimming
Swimming lessons take place at Hornby pool. The children thoroughly enjoy these lessons and make excellent progress. They need to bring their swimwear and a towel, together with a warm coat and hat to wear for the journey to and from school. The day of the week may change from time to time so please check Remind or Google Classroom.
Reading
We hear children read as much as possible in Guided Reading sessions and individually but they will benefit enormously from reading every day and this is something you can help with at home. We encourage the children to bring their reading record and reading book to school every day. Please read with your child and listen to them read to you as much as you can.
Homework
Homework is set on a Monday an it is usually due the following Monday. When the homework involves a creative task, longer time is given for its completion. Children will also receive regular handwriting practise as part of their homework.
Spellings
Spellings are sent home on Friday for a test the following Friday.
Times Tables
Children work on times tables during maths lessons and are tested on Wednesdays. The children always know which times tables they are currently working on. Please practise these as much as possible at home with your child.
